Supriya Yelimeli is the Communications Officer at East Bay Community Foundation. She comes from a background in journalism where she spent a decade in newsrooms across California, covering breaking news, activism, and local stories. Most recently, she reported on housing and homelessness in Berkeley, where she led coverage of the historic People’s Park and its closure by UC Berkeley.
Supriya’s upbringing in Fremont has shaped her perspective on the Bay Area’s rich cultural diversity, as well as its deep economic inequalities. She is passionate about creating lasting pathways for people of color in journalism and media through mentorship, and participating in mutual aid and community-led solutions for a happier, healthier Bay Area.
She studied Communication at UC Santa Barbara, and believes that clear-eyed, compelling storytelling can empower local communities. She loves neighborhood cats, the Bay Area’s natural beauty, and yummy meals shared with loved ones.
