Today, on the Transgender Day of Remembrance, we honor the memory of all our transgender community members who have lost their lives to violence, and we recommit to the work of building a world where we are all safe, affirmed, and free.

This is a dark moment in our nation’s history. Across the country, we are seeing mounting transphobia and dehumanizing rhetoric, increasing violence aimed at LGBTQIA communities, and cruel efforts to restrict healthcare and deny the dignity and bodily autonomy of transgender Americans. Statements of solidarity are not enough.

For this reason, EBCF seeks out, supports, and funds organizations that have an intersectional approach to racial, economic, and gender justice. We know that none of us are free until we are all free, and we fund in ways that foster movement building, collaboration, and solidarity.

In the list below, we are featuring some of the many organizations doing important work in our region. You can give directly to these groups through your Donor-Advised Fund. Oakland LGBT Community Center is dedicated to enhancing and sustaining the well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) individuals, our families and allies, by providing educational, social, and health related activities, programs and services.

Our Family Coalition advocates for an inclusive and just world for LGBTQ families. They cultivate community-based leadership, host affinity groups and community spaces, and connect families with healthcare and other resources.

Pacific Center for Human Growth works to enhance the mental health and overall well-being of the LGBTQIA+ and QTBIPOC communities by providing culturally responsive therapy, peer-to-peer support groups, community outreach services, and facilitated workshops.

Side by Side: Our Space serves LGBTQIA+ youth ages 13-24 and provides the youth and their parents/caregivers with community and school-based advocacy and support groups. Workshops for educators and other professionals help create safer and more supportive communities. The program’s Community Center provides a safe place for youth to gather, receive individual and case management services, and access food and gender-affirming clothes.

Transgender Law Center is the largest national, trans-led organization working to set all people free. They champion the right of all transgender and gender-nonconforming people to make their own choices and live freely, safely, and authentically. Prioritizing BIPOC, disabled, and HIV+ communities, they advance community-driven strategies that harness trans knowledge, power, and joy to ensure that we all not only survive but thrive at all ages and phases of life.
