Chief Operating Officer – Kaiser Permanente Northern California
Tom Hanenburg is Chief Operating Officer for the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Region.
He is responsible for overseeing and directing the Northern California regional portfolio including 21 medical centers, Compliance, Continuum, Human Resources, Quality, and Clinical Services. Before assuming this role, Tom was the Senior Vice President for Hospital and Health Plan for Northern California from 2016 to 2018. He joined Kaiser Permanente in 2013 as the Senior Vice President and Area Manager of the Greater Southern Alameda Service Area.
Prior to Kaiser Permanente, Tom was Chief Executive Officer of the Southern Oregon Service Area for Providence Health & Services, which included operational oversight for Providence Medford Medical Center, Providence Medical Group, and the Providence Community Health Foundation. He assumed his duties at Providence Medford in January 2006. He has also held other executive positions with national hospital systems, including Duke University Health System, Health Management Associates, and Humana.
Tom received his Masters in Health Services Administration from Arizona State University, and is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. He is also a board member of the St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Stockton, California, which is joint venture between Dignity Health and Kaiser Permanente, and is a former board member of the California Hospital Association.
He and his wife Mary live in Danville, California.
