On behalf of a group of family members who lost loved ones in the Ghost Ship Warehouse fire in Oakland on December 2, 2016, we are asking for your help in creating a lasting memorial to honor these 36 lives.
Nearly ten years have passed since that heartbreaking night, yet for those who loved them, the loss is as profound today as it was then. They were not simply victims of a tragedy, they were artists, musicians, sons, daughters, siblings, partners, and friends whose creativity, kindness, and generosity enriched countless lives.
Our goal is to complete the first phase of the memorial before the tenth anniversary of the fire this December 2. An illuminated steel ring engraved with each of their names and a statement about what happened at the site will serve as a place of solace. Ultimately, the placement of a 30-foot-tall kinetic sculpture on the site of the tragedy will complete the permanent memorial alongside newly built affordable housing.
We hope you will help make this place of remembrance a reality. It will offer families, friends, and the community a place to gather, reflect, grieve, and celebrate the remarkable lives that continue to inspire us. Our immediate goal is to raise $75,000 toward the first phase of the project, with a total campaign goal of $375,000.
Tax-deductible donations may be made through the East Bay Community Foundation to the Ghost Ship Memorial Fund. Every gift, no matter the size, brings us closer to creating a permanent tribute that will ensure these 36 extraordinary individuals are remembered for the beauty, love, creativity, and community they brought into the world. We cannot bring our loved ones back, but together we can create a place where their lives will always be remembered.
