With over 20 years of experience in Human Resources across the for-profit, nonprofit, and government sectors, Martha D. Mena serves as the Vice President of Human Resources and Facilities Management at the East Bay Community Foundation. 

Martha began her career in the banking industry, establishing the human resources department at a unique, labor union-owned financial institution. She transitioned to the nonprofit sector in the Bay Area, focusing on establishing HR departments from the ground up and enhancing existing systems. She has worked closely with team members to co-create strategic plans and operationalize them, ensuring that organizational policies, procedures, systems, and programs reflect principles of social and racial justice and uphold human dignity, promoting access, growth, and equitable rewards for all. Martha is committed to ensuring that internal systems align with principles of equity and justice.   

Fluent in Spanish, Martha holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development from California State University, East Bay, and a Master’s Degree in Leadership with a concentration in Coaching and Facilitation from St. Mary’s College of California.  

Martha finds joy in spending time with loved ones, traveling, and being of service to the community in her hometown of Oakland, California.
