EBCF In The News

Asian Pacific America with Robert Handa

On October 15, 2019, our team appeared on the Bay Area news show, Asian Pacific America with Robert Handa – a weekly half hour show covering newsmakers, events, community accolades, and youth perspectives for regional Asian communities.

For the segment, we addressed the importance of the upcoming Census for all communities, but specifically for Asian and Pacific Islanders. As we know, an accurate census count has big implications; determining how federal funds get distributed, as well as how many representatives each state gets in Congress. Despite Asian Americans being the fastest growing racial group in the United States and the largest in Santa Clara and Alameda Counties, working class Asian immigrant and refugee families are harder to reach and at risk of being missed. Obtaining an accurate 2020 count is critical and EBCF is working tirelessly with the Silicon Valley Community Foundation and Northern California Grantmakers to ensure an accurate count.

As our spokesperson for this media opportunity, Alexander Saingchin, Former EBCF Vice President of Community Investment & Partnerships, represented the Foundation extraordinarily well. He was joined by Vivian Huang, Deputy Director from our partners at Asian Pacific Environmental Network who was equally as masterful.
